Hope

The word “hope” in English often means “to wish that something might happen”. In the Bible, hope usually relates to God. People place their hope in God and God offers hope to people. The meaning of “hope” in the Bible is “expecting everything to come from God”:

  • In the Old Testament, the word “hope” usually relates to a hopeful life, but also sometimes refers to a hopeful future that will soon come about.
  • In the New Testament, the word “hope” refers to the faith or the expectation that God will honour his promises for the future.
