Holiness
Holiness is a central concept in the Bible and within religion in general. It can be defined from a variety of angles:
- Holiness is a characteristic of everything that belongs to God and that is connected to God or the divine will.
- Holiness is something that people experience when they come in contact with God. God’s holiness inspires feelings of awe and insignificance in people.
- Holiness can also indicate a particular status within the community. For example, priests in the Old Testament period had a status of holiness.
- Holiness manifests itself in certain phenomena such as divine revelation.
