Drum

A drum is a percussion instrument. It was not often used in and around the Temple, but rather was often used for processions and celebrations. The Hebrew word for drum is toph.

What Did a Drum Look Like?

A drum is made from the hide of an animal, which is stretched out over a wooden frame. The drum was held in one hand and struck with the other.
A drum with little bells on the side is a tambourine. It was often women who played the tambourine (see for example Exodus 15:20; Judges 11:34; 1 Samuel 18:6; Psalm 68:25; Jeremiah 31:4).

How was a Drum Used?

The drum was often used in celebrations as an accompaniment for singing. It is noteworthy that this instrument was seldom used in or around the Temple.
