Old Testament

The books of the Old Testament differ considerably, and they came into being over a period of centuries. The Old Testament is Holy Scripture both for the Jewish and the Christian traditions.
Since the days of the early Church, Christians have called the Hebrew Bible the Old Testament. In New Testament times these books were referred to as “the Law and the Prophets” or as “the Scriptures”.
