Bible: Name

The word “Bible” comes from the word biblia. That is originally a Greek word, the plural of biblion, “book”, and biblia therefore meant “books”. The word biblia was used in Greek for certain collections of writings. Often biblia was combined with another word indicating what kind of collection it was: ta biblia ta hagia (“the holy books” in 1 Maccabees 12:9).
