Canon
A canon is a list of books recognised as the standard and authority within a (religious) community. The word canon comes from the Greek word kanon. This means “reed” or “stick”, but also “norm” or “standard”. The books of the canon are called “canonical books”. They are regarded as holy scriptures with a special, divine authority. They are the norm or guideline for believers.
