Aloes

Aloeswood comes from a tree (aquilaria agallocha in Latin) found in the north of India, from which a precious perfume is produced. It was used to freshen clothing and was also formed into incense (see Psalm 45:8 and Proverbs 7:17).

John 19:39, however, refers to a type of oil that was used in Ancient Egypt for embalming, most likely from the plant aloe vera.
