The first translation of the Bible in Afrikaans was honoured as a part of the ‘Vlam vir Afrikaans’ project at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria on Sunday, 25 August.

Two sisters, Lynsey and Suzann Knoetzen, determined to “find themselves” on a recent holiday rediscovered the Bible instead. It changed their lives — and now they want to help to change the lives of others in Africa too.

It’s Word Riders time again: when bikers boldly tackle rough terrain for Bibles – this time in the southern parts of the Eastern Cape.

For many years the Bible Society of South Africa has had a long-standing relationship with the armed forces. Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF)  have been using New Testaments and Bibles distributed by Bible Society since 1940.

The Mother City was a hive of activity this past weekend as thousands of cyclists took to the streets for the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour. The event is also a big affair on the Bible Society’s calendar.

On 31 October, the Bible Society reached an exceptional milestone. With the launch of the Setswana literacy material in the Uniting Reformed Church Tlhabane, Rustenburg, speakers of all 11 official languages in South Africa now have access to this material, which forms part of a project, If you can read you can learn.

In 2018, some 26 270 Grade 7 learners in our country each received a Bible of their own, many of them for the very first time. Many of these children’s parents were struggling to get by and with the daily grind to put food on the table, a Bible for each child is not always possible.

Bible translation is the heart of Bible work. A brief letter we recently received, makes one realise how wonderfully the Lord works in the hearts of his children to ensure that his Word makes its way into the hands of people.
