Sheaf of Wheat

A sheaf of wheat is a bundle of ears of wheat. After the harvest they were tied together and placed upright in the field. This prevented the ears with the grains of wheat getting wet and rotting because of moisture from the ground.

When the farmer had finished the harvest, the sheaves were taken to the threshing floor for threshing.
