Epicurus

Epicurus was a Greek philosopher (342-270 BC), who founded a famous school of philosophers. The book of Acts mentions people who were followers of his philosophy.

Philosophy of Epicurus

According to Epicurus the world can be explained on the basis of the natural connections between things. The gods did not create the world, and they do not intervene in history either. The human being must free himself from his fear of the supernatural and death, and must strive for happiness.

Paul in Athens

Epicurus did not believe in life after death, hence the reaction of the Epicureans to the words of Paul when he entered into discussion with them in Athens (Acts 17:32).
