Sermon on the Plain

The Sermon on the Mount can be found in Matthew 5–7. In the Gospels according to Mark and John there is a similar address. Luke does have some passages that are very similar, but unlike Matthew, he does not have Jesus address the people on a mountain:

“When Jesus had come down from the hill with the apostles, he stood on a level place with a large number of his disciples.” (Luke 6:17)

This is why the address in Luke 6 is called the “Sermon on the Plain”.
