Sermon on the Mount

In Matthew 5–7, there is a long speech by Jesus that is known as the “Sermon on the Mount”. This name is taken from the introductory verses:

“Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered round him, and he began to teach them” (Matthew 5:1-2).

More information about the Sermon on the Mount can be found under overview, context and the beatitudes. A passage in Luke which has partially similar contents is sometimes called the Sermon on the Plain.
