2 Peter: Structure

The second letter from Peter is attributed to the apostle Peter. This letter has many points of agreement with the letter from Jude.

Summary of Contents

The framework of the letter (2 Peter 1:1-3; 2 Peter 3:17-18) includes such standard elements as an opening and a greeting.
In addition, it focuses on two key ideas: the central significance of Jesus as saviour, and encouragement to remain firm in the faith. The central section of the letter elaborates on why this endurance is necessary, what is required in this endurance and what it will lead to.
