Psalms 90

Of God and Humanity

1O Lord, you have always been our home.

2Before you created the hills

or brought the world into being,

you were eternally God,

and will be God for ever.

Psalms 90:1-2GNBOpen in Bible reader

Often on a Monday morning, I’ll sit at my desk, log in to my e-mail and immediately feel overwhelmed by the never-ending list of tasks before me. My to-do list seems to grow longer with each passing day of the week, and I often feel a sense of anxiety and uncertainty about how I’m ever going to get through it all.

In the hustle and bustle of my daily life, it’s easy to get caught up in the temporary and transient things of this world. I can become overwhelmed by the passing moments and the uncertainties of the future. However, Psalm 90:2 reminds me of the eternal nature of my God.

Before the foundation of the earth was laid, before the mountains rose, and before time as we know it began, God existed. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. From everlasting to everlasting, he is God. His presence and his sovereignty transcend time and space.

This truth offers me great comfort and reassurance. In the midst of my overwhelming to-do list and the uncertainties of life, I have a God who remains the same. His faithfulness, his love, and his promises endure forever. I can trust in his unchanging character and find security in his eternal nature.

This week, when we feel overwhelmed by the fleeting moments of life, let’s remember that our God is everlasting. Let’s seek him above all else and trust that he holds our past, our present, and our future in his hands.

Prayer: Eternal and unchanging God, when I am overwhelmed by the demands of life, remind me of your eternal presence. Help me to trust in your unchanging character and to find peace in your everlasting love. Guide me as I navigate the passing moments of this world, and lead me to dwell in the eternal hope found in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
