God’s grace, love and power – Day 20
He gives us wisdom
Bible text(s)
Proverbs 3
Christianity does not, in the first place, consist of a lot of rules and laws that we have to obey. In essence, Christianity is all about a relationship with Jesus. So if you choose to live for God, you will also want to listen to him and do his will. The question is: How do you know what God wants and what he approves of?
Some say: “I let myself be guided by habit.” My parents and their parents did so and, therefore, I am doing it. Others let themselves be guided by the majority: “Everyone does it this way, why should I do otherwise?” As Christians, we have a different tool to help us with our choices in life. This is the Bible.
The Bible helps us to solve our problems and make good choices. But sometimes, the Bible is not clear about certain things, simply because it did not exist then. When the Corinthians, from the Bible, could not determine whether they were allowed to eat meat sacrificed to an idol or not, Paul’s advice was: “Do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:23-33).
So, if we do not know how, the Lord will always grant us the wisdom through prayer. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you,” says the Lord, in Psalm 32:8.
It is not always easy to do what the Lord wants us to do. But once we have chosen to live for God, we would want to be obedient to the Lord, in the choices that we make.
God, who laid down the rules of life for us, knows what is best for us. He made us. He also knows what kind of life suits us best.
