Moses consecrates the priests
1The Lord said to Moses: 2‘You must bring Aaron and his sons with their priestly clothes, the anointing-oil, the bull for the sin-offering, the 2 sheep rams and the basket with the flat bread. 3You must call all the people of the congregation to come together at the entrance of the tent where I appear to the Israelites.’
4Moses did what the Lord said. He called the congregation together at the entrance of the tent of the Lord. 5Moses said to the congregation: ‘This is what the Lord has told us to do.’
6Then Moses asked Aaron and his sons to come to him and he washed them. 7Moses took the priestly shirt and he put it on Aaron. He tied the sash around Aaron and also the cloak, the robe and the shoulder-cloth. He tied it with a belt. 8He tied the breast-piece and he put the urim_and_thummim into the breast-piece. 9He put the turban on Aaron's head and put a golden flower, a holy_crown, onto the turban, as the Lord had said.
10Then Moses took the anointing-oil and he anointed the tent of the Lord and everything in it and he consecrated it to the Lord. 11He sprinkled some of the anointing-oil onto the altar 7 times and he anointed and consecrated the altar and all the tools of the altar and the wash basin and its stand. 12Moses poured some of the anointing-oil on Aaron's head and he anointed and consecrated Aaron. 13Then Moses called the sons of Aaron to come to him and he gave them the priestly clothes to wear with the sashes and the headbands for their heads as the Lord had said.
14Moses asked them to bring the bull for the sin-offering. Aaron and his sons put their hands on the head of the bull. 15Then Moses killed the bull and he took some of the blood on his finger and he put it onto the horns_of_the_altar. He purified the altar. He poured out the blood that was left over at the bottom of the altar and consecrated the altar and made atonement for it. 16Moses took all the fat around the inner parts and the fat part of the liver and the 2 kidneys and the fat on the kidneys and he burnt it on the altar. 17He took the skin and the meat from the bull and its dung and he burnt it outside the camp, as the Lord told him.
18Then Moses told them to bring the sheep ram for the burnt-offering, and Aaron and his sons put their hands on the head of the ram. 19Moses killed the ram and he sprinkled the blood on all the sides of the altar. 20He cut the ram into pieces and he burnt the head and the pieces of meat and fat. 21He washed the inner parts and the legs and he also burnt them. Then he burnt the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt-offering, a fire-offering as the Lord had told Moses, an offering that pleased the Lord.
22Moses told them to bring the other sheep ram, the ram for consecrating the priests. Aaron and his sons put their hands on the head of the ram. 23Moses killed the ram and he put some of the blood on Aaron's right ear, on his right thumb and on the big toe of his right foot. 24He called the sons of Aaron to come to him and he also put some of the blood on their right ears, on their right thumbs and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he sprinkled the other blood onto the altar and all around it. 25He took the fat, the fat of the tail and all the fat on the inner parts, the fat part of the liver and the 2 kidneys and the right leg. 26There was flat bread in the basket at the altar. Moses took a loaf of the round flat bread from the basket and a round loaf with olive oil and a wafer, and he put them with the fat and the right leg of the sheep ram. 27Then he put all of it onto the hands of Aaron and his sons, and he moved it from one side to the other side as a move-offering before the Lord. 28Moses took all of it and he burnt it on the altar with the burnt-offering. This was an offering to consecrate the priests. It was a burnt-offering that pleased the Lord. 29Moses took the breast of the sheep ram and he moved it before the Lord as a move-offering to Him. Moses could take the breast of the ram for himself as the Lord had told him.
30Then Moses took some of the anointing-oil and the blood on the altar and he sprinkled it onto Aaron and his sons and onto their clothes. This is how he consecrated them and their clothes. 31Moses said to Aaron and his sons: ‘You must cook the meat at the entrance of the tent where the Lord appears to the Israelites and you must eat it over there with the bread in the basket. The Lord told me that you and your sons must eat it. 32You must burn the meat that was left over and the bread. 33You may not go away from the door of the tent for 7 days. You must stay there until the time it takes to consecrate you ends because it takes 7 days before you are consecrated. 34The Lord told us to do these things as we have done it today to make atonement for you. 35You must stay at the door of the tent, day and night, for 7 days and you must do what the Lord said, then you will not die.’ 36Aaron and his sons did everything that the Lord had told Moses to tell them to do.
