There is a reason for everything; there is a purpose for our existence and it is for the glory of God!

The world and time in which we find ourselves has a different mind-set – everything is focused on the person. Everything aims to entertain people. Everything is designed and put on the shelf for our convenience. People become, as it were, a god of small things – the centre of a world that revolves around them.

And that’s precisely the problem facing the believer: we are in the midst of this world that steers people away from God and declares the importance of the individual.

In that respect, nature – just like the human creation of God – is a great example for us. When you open your windows early in the morning, listen to the sound of the bird’s praise song – especially now that summer is here! It’s almost as though they know no alternative!

The psalmist encourages us today to bring glory to God, “let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore”. Two psalms later he writes, “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 115:1)

Today, bring praise and glory to God in everything you think, say and do. Set your thoughts on God, for the glory is his and everything is about him. This is the reason of our existence.

The famous author, CS Lewis, once wrote that praise is surely the only activity here on earth that can be continued unchanged in heaven.
