As you read these words right now, you are one of the “them” that the psalmist refers to! God made you almost like a heavenly being and gave you prestige. He had quality in mind when he created you. In Genesis 1:26, we read that God decided to create man as his representative, in his image; and when he looked at everything he had made, he decided that it was good. Or rather, when God evaluated his creation of humankind, he declared that it was “very good”!

He looks at you with awe today. In his eyes, you are breath-taking. He dreams about you, he is excited about you and makes plans for you. Besides the fact that he created you with such care, you became co-heirs with Christ through Jesus’ death on the cross!

You and I – almost heavenly beings, representatives of God, the image of God – how do we live each day? Do we live as image bearers of the Almighty, as heirs of the only God? Do we remind ourselves that we are the crown of God’s creation and act accordingly?

When you walk past a mirror today, linger for a moment, look at your reflection and try to see what God sees. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:13)
