Fasting

“Fasting” is a set ritual within the religion of the Bible. Fasting meant abstaining from eating temporarily. This was voluntary. There are small differences between the Old and the New Testaments.

  • Fasting in the Old Testament was a religious ritual that could be done both individually and as a group.
  • In the New Testament fasting is seen as a sign of someone’s devotion to God. There were no rules about fasting yet in the early Church.
