Weaving

In weaving, a piece of cloth was made from loose threads. This was done with the aid of a weaving loom.
There were various sorts of loom, both horizontal and vertical ones. The advantage of a vertical loom was that it took up less indoor space and could be simply placed against the wall.

Vertical Loom

A vertical loom consisted of a wooden beam, a wooden stick roughly 5 to 6 centimetres thick. The beam was fixed to a wooden frame. Threads were attached to the beam, hanging down vertically. This is called the warp or warp thread. The warp threads were held in place by small weights of clay or stone fixed at the ends. Archaeologists have found many such warp weights.
Through the vertical warp, horizontal threads were drawn, over and under — the weft yarn. This was done with the aid of a shuttle made of wood or bone.
