House Church

The book of Acts tells us that the first believers broke bread “in each other’s homes” and that whole families were baptised. In his letters, Paul regularly passes on greetings from and to a congregation that assembles in someone’s home.

Small Congregations

In the first century, Christians did not meet in special church buildings. Their meetings were in the homes of well-off members of the congregation. These houses had room for at most 30 to 40 people. In such cities as Corinth and Rome there were no doubt several such house churches.
