Scroll

A scroll is a rolled-up piece of parchment (dried and treated animal skin) or papyrus. Sheets of parchment or papyrus were stuck together into a roll, sometimes several metres in length. A scroll was inscribed in columns, with the writing only on the inside of the scroll. To read from a scroll, it first had to be unrolled.
The various books of the Old Testament were originally written on scrolls.
