Focus your faith on Him – Day 6
Display God’s glory, bit by bit
Bible text(s)
2 Corinthians 3
These days, we’re obsessed with speed and efficiency; we want things done as quickly as possible. These habits and attitudes extend into our spiritual lives too. We want a sermon, a seminar or an experience that will instantly resolve all problems, remove all temptation and release us from the growing pains of maturing in Christ.
God, however, is more interested in strength and stability than swiftness.
We, like Moses when he entered the tabernacle to speak with God, also come into his presence with open (that is, unveiled) faces when we read his word, which both reveals us for what we are, like a mirror, and reveals to us the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. In so doing, we begin to reflect his own image in our lives. The glory seen in Christ creates a similar glory in us.
The Holy Spirit makes this glorious transformation possible. Christlikeness is our eventual destination, but our journey will last a lifetime. Every day God wants us to become a little more like him.
Of course, the simplest things are often the hardest to do. If you’ve ever tried to get into shape, you’ll know that eating better and exercising more is the only way to really do it. There are no magic foods, miracle workouts or wonder pills. You simply have to stick to it, every day.
Displaying God’s glory is much the same. We sang a song in Sunday school: “Read your Bible, pray every day, and you’ll grow, grow, GROW!” It’s as simple as that.
