Jonah
This is the story of Jonah, the runaway prophet.
God said: “Jonah, go to the city of Nineveh and warn the people living there that I am going to destroy the city.”
Jonah was disobedient and ran away in another direction. He got on a ship that was going to Spain.
But God made a strong wind blow, and there was a bad storm on the sea.
The sailors were frightened and they were trying everything to save the ship. All this time, Jonah was sleeping down in the ship’s hold.
The sailors found out that Jonah was running away from God. So they took Jonah and threw him overboard. At once the sea calmed down.
God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah.
From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to God for help.
God heard Jonah’s prayer and he commanded the fish to spew Jonah up on the beach.
Once again God said to Jonah: “Go to the city of Nineveh.” So Jonah went.
When Jonah arrived in Nineveh, he walked through the city shouting: “God is going to destroy the city of Nineveh!”
The people of Nineveh felt very sorry and stopped being bad. Then God decided not to destroy the city.
