1O Lord, please tear open
the heaven and come down
so that the mountains tremble before You.
2Please come like a fire that burns wood,
a fire that makes water boil.
Then your enemies will know your name
and the nations will tremble before You.
3Long ago You did miracles
and we were amazed.
You came and the mountains trembled.
4Never before have we heard
of anything like this,
and no one has ever seen another god
doing anything like this
for the people who believe in it.
5You love to help people who do
what is right and who are happy about it,
people who remember
how You want them to live.
But You became angry when we sinned.
We have sinned for a long time.
Will You save us again?
6All of us became like impure people.
We thought that the things we did were good,
but they were wrong,
and they were like dirty clothes to You.
All of us are like leaves
that have become dry and have died.
Our sins are like a strong wind
that blows us away.
7No one worshipped You,
and no one tried to be faithful to You.
That is why You turned away from us,
and You made our sins burn and melt us.
8But, Lord, You are our Father.
We are the clay, and You are the Potter.
You have made us all.
9Lord, please do not stay angry with us.
Please do not always think
about the sins that we have done.
Please look at us and remember
that we are your people.
10Your holy cities have become
like deserts. Zion is a desert,
and there are no people living in Jerusalem.
11Our holy, beautiful temple,
where our forefathers worshipped and praised You,
has been burnt down.
All of our beautiful homes
have become heaps of stones.
12Lord, when You see these things,
why don't You help us?
Why don't You do something?
Will You always just keep quiet
and make us suffer?
