I will save my people
1Who is that person coming
from the land of Edom?
Who is coming from the city of Bozrah?
His clothes are full of red spots
and he wears the clothes of a king.
Who is he? He is coming here
and he seems to be very strong.
He says: ‘It is I.
I come to tell you that I have won the war
and I will save the people.’
2Someone asks:
‘Why are your clothes red like that?
It seems as if you have trampled
grapes in a wine-press.’
3The officer answers:
‘I have trampled grapes in the wine-press.
I was alone, and there was no one with me.
I was angry and I trampled the nations.
I trampled them for a long time,
and their blood was sprinkled on my clothes.
That is why my clothes are full of blood.
4Now is the right time for me
to punish my enemies and
to save my people and free them.
5I looked for someone to help me,
but I was surprised when there was no one.
Then I did it myself.
I was angry and I did it myself.
6I was angry and I trampled the nations.
I trampled them until all of them were dead
and their blood flowed onto the ground.’
I want to tell what the Lord has done
7I want to tell what the Lord has done
because He loves us.
I want to praise Him for what He has done.
I want to talk about everything
that the Lord has done for us.
He kept on doing good to the Israelites.
He did that because He felt sorry for them
and He loved them very much.
8The Lord said: ‘They are really my people.
They are children who will not tell lies to Me.’
That is why He saved them,
9every time things
were bad for them and they suffered.
He was not their enemy. He was an Angel.
He saved them Himself.
He freed them because He loves them
and feels sorry for them.
Long ago He picked them up
and carried them from that day on.
10But they were rebellious
and they made the Holy_Spirit sad.
Then the Lord changed.
He became their enemy
and He made war_against them.
11Then his people remembered
what had happened long before to Moses and his people.
The Lord brought his people through the sea.
Moses was the leader like a shepherd.
The Lord sent his Holy_Spirit
to go with them on their way.
12He gave his power to Moses
and He opened the water
of the sea in front of them.
The people will always remember that.
13The Lord took his people
through the deep sea.
Not one of them stumbled,
and they walked like a horse on dry ground.
14The Spirit of the Lord brought them
all the way home.
He led them like cattle that go down to a valley.
The people will always remember this.
Don't You love us anymore?
But where is the Lord now?
15Lord in heaven, please look at us
from your holy and beautiful throne.
Don't You love us anymore?
Are You not strong anymore?
Are You not worried about us?
Don't You feel sorry for us?
16Yes, You are our Father.
Abraham or Jacob is not our father.
They don't know about us.
Lord, You are our Father,
and You have always been our Saviour.
That is your name.
17Lord, why do You make us
turn away from You?
Why do You make us become stubborn
so that we don't serve You?
Please come back to us, to your servants,
to the tribes that belong to You.
18Your holy people lived in the land
for only a short while,
then our enemies came
and they destroyed your temple.
19For a long time we have been like Gentile people
over whom You have never ruled,
like people that do not belong to You.
