The Lord is angry with all nations
1Nations, all of you must listen.
Earth and everything on it must listen.
The world and everything that comes
from the world must listen.
2The Lord is very angry
with all the nations
and all their soldiers,
and He will cause them all to die.
3Their soldiers will die in war
and the dead bodies will lie
on the ground and smell bad.
The mountains will be full of blood.
4All the stars in the sky will melt
and heaven will be rolled up like a scroll.
The stars will fall down like
dry leaves of a vine or a fig tree.
The Lord will punish the Edomites
5When the Lord in heaven
prepares his sword to fight,
his sword will kill the Edomites.
They are the people who will die
when He punishes them.
6There will be a lot of blood and fat
on the Lord's sword,
the blood and fat of the kidneys of rams.
The Lord will kill a lot of people
in the town of Bozrah
in the land of Edom.
7The leaders of Edom are strong,
like big cattle and strong bulls,
but their blood and fat will fall onto the ground,
and their land will become wet.
8The Lord will punish the Edomites
for everything that they did to Zion.
He will do it at the time
that He has decided to do it.
9The water from the rivers
of the land of Edom will become like tar,
and the dust will become like sulphur,
and the whole land will burn.
10The fire will keep on burning
every day and night,
and smoke will keep on coming out of it.
The land will become heaps of stones,
and no one will walk through the land again.
11There will be no people living in the land,
and the land will become empty.
Only pelicans and owls will live there,
and night-owls and ravens
will make their nests there.
12There will be no more leaders
to rule the land of Edom
and there will be no more officials.
13Long ago there were beautiful
houses with strong walls,
but now thorns and bushes will grow there.
There will be foxes and ostriches living there.
14Desert animals will come together there
and wild goats will call each other.
The night animals will also live there.
15Owls will sit on their eggs in the shade,
and hawks will come together with their mates.
16Look into the book of the Lord,
and you will see that all those animals
will be in the land of Edom,
each with his mate.
The Lord will tell the animals to come.
He will call them to come together there.
17The Lord will give the land of Edom
to the animals.
He will give each one a place to stay.
The land will belong to the animals forever,
and they will always live there.
