Jesus is more important than Moses
1My friends who belong to Christ with me, God has chosen you too, so you must remember that we who believe must always think of Jesus and follow him, our Apostle and High-priest. 2Jesus was faithful and He did everything that God told Him to do. Moses was also faithful and did everything he had to do for the people of God.
3God knew that Jesus was more important than Moses, as the one who builds a house is more important than the house that he builds. 4It is a man who builds a house, but it is God who says he must build it. God is the One who builds everything.
5It is true that Moses was a faithful servant and he served God's people very well, like someone who worked for other people. He did it so that he could tell them everything that God would say in the future. 6But Christ is not the same as Moses. Christ is the Son of God and He did everything for the people of God. And we are the people of God if we trust in Him and keep on hoping for the things that God will give us.
Do not stop believing
7That is why the Holy_Spirit says:
‘Today, when you listen to God,
8do not be stubborn like you were
when you rebelled_against God
on the day when you tested Him
in the desert.
9Your forefathers tested Me
and they saw what I did for 40 years.
10Then I became angry
with them and said:
“They always want to do what is wrong.
They never do what I want.”
11I was angry and said:
“As sure as I live,
they will not come into the land
where I wanted them to stay
and where they could rest.” ’
12My friends, that is why you must be careful that not one of you becomes bad and rebellious and stops believing in God who lives. 13But you must help each other to live in the right way so that not one of you becomes stubborn. Don't let sin deceive you. You must do this every day of your lives, every day in which you can say: ‘It is today.’ 14We have become part of Christ and we work with Him, if we keep on believing to the end. Never forget the things that we believed from the beginning. 15It is like the Old_Testament says:
‘Today, when you listen to God,
don't be stubborn
like the people who rebelled_against God.’
16Who were those people who heard what God said but were rebellious? They were all the people who came out of the land of Egypt with Moses. 17Who were the people that made God angry for 40 years? He was angry with those people who have sinned and died in the desert. 18God said: ‘As sure as I live, they will not come into the land where I wanted them to live safely and where they could rest.’ Who were those people? God was talking about his people who did not listen to Him. 19So we see that they could not go into the land because they did not believe in God.
