Men and women who become impure
1The Lord talked to Moses and Aaron and He said: 2‘You must tell the Israelites that if something wet comes out of a man's genitals, it makes him impure. 3The man is impure if it keeps on coming out of his genitals or if it comes out only sometimes. 4The bed on which this man sleeps and everything that he sits on will also be impure. 5Anyone who touches this bed must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself in water. He is impure until that night. 6Anyone who sits on something that this man has been sitting on must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 7If someone touches this man, he must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening.
8If this man spits on a person who is pure, then that person must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 9If this man rides on anything, then it becomes impure. 10Everyone who touches something on which this man has been sitting must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 11If the person does not wash his hands and he touches another person, then the other person must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 12You must break a clay pot if this man has touched the pot. If he touches anything made of wood, then you must wash it.
13If the man is healed, he must wait for 7 days. Then he must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself in fresh water and he will be pure. 14On the 8th day the man must take 2 doves and he must go to the entrance of the tent of the Lord. He must give the doves to the priest in front of the tent. 15The priest must then sacrifice the doves, one dove for the sin-offering and one dove for the burnt-offering. This is how the priest must make atonement before God for the man.
16If semen has come out of a man's genitals, then he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 17He must wash the clothes or leather that the semen has come onto. He is impure until the evening. 18If a man has sex with a woman and semen has come out of his genitals, then they must both bathe themselves. They are impure until the evening.
19When a woman menstruates, she is impure for 7 days. Anyone who touches her is impure until that night. 20Anything on which the woman lies or sits while she is menstruating becomes impure. 21-23Anyone who touches the bed or chair or anything that the woman has been sitting on must wash his clothes and he must bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 24If a man has sex with a woman who is menstruating, then he will be impure for 7 days and every bed on which he lies will become impure.
25When there is blood coming out of a woman at a time when she is not menstruating, or if blood continues to come out after she has menstruated, then she is impure as long as the blood comes out. 26Every bed on which she lies and every chair that she sits on will become impure, like when she is menstruating. 27Anyone who touches the bed or the chair that she has been sitting on will become impure. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself. He is impure until the evening. 28If there is no more blood coming out of the woman, then she must wait for 7 days and then she will be pure again. 29On the 8th day she must bring 2 doves to the priest at the entrance of the tent of the Lord. 30The priest must sacrifice the doves, one dove for a sin-offering and one dove for a burnt-offering. This is how he must make atonement for the woman after she has been impure.
31You must warn the Israelites to stay away from things that are impure and not to make the tent of the Lord impure, because if they do that, they will die. 32This is what must happen when semen or something wet comes from a man's genitals and he becomes impure.
33These are the laws about women who menstruate and men who become impure when semen comes out of their genitals or when a man has sex with a woman while she is impure.’
