Skin that is impure
1The Lord talked to Moses and Aaron and He said: 2‘If someone's skin has a swelling or it becomes red or there is a sore and it looks like leprosy or a disease, then they must take him to Aaron, the priest, or to one of Aaron's sons, or to one of the other priests. 3The priest must look at the sore on his skin. If the hair on the sore has become white and if it looks as if the sore is deeper than the skin, then it is leprosy. After the priest has looked at the person, he must say to him: “You have leprosy. You are impure.”
4Sometimes the sore on a person's skin is white and it looks as if it is not deeper than the skin. If the hair on the sore has not become white, then the priest must take that person away from all the other people for 7 days. 5On the 7th day the priest must look at the person again and if he sees that the sore on his skin has not become bigger, then he must keep that person away from other people for another 7 days. 6After 7 days the priest must look at the person again and if he sees that the colour of the sore is better and it has not become bigger, then the priest must say that it is not leprosy. It is a different skin disease, and the person is pure. The person must wash his clothes and he will be pure again.
7But if the sore becomes bigger after the person has come to the priest and asked him to say that he is pure, then the person must go back to the priest. 8The priest must look at it and if the sore on his skin has become bigger, then the person is a leper and the priest must tell him that he is impure.
9If someone has a sore that might be leprosy, then his family must bring him to the priest. 10The priest must look at the sore. If the sore on his skin is white and there is a swelling and the hair on the sore is white, and if the sore is wet or red, 11then the sore is leprous and the priest must tell the person that he is impure and he must take the person away from all the other people because he knows that the person is impure.
12But if the skin disease becomes worse and it covers the person's body from his head to his toes, 13then the priest must look carefully and if all the skin on the person's body has become white, then the priest must say that the person is pure. 14But if the person has a sore that is wet and open, then he is impure. 15If the priest sees a wet sore, he must say that the person is impure. A wet sore shows that it is leprosy. 16If the wet sore becomes white again, then the person must go back to the priest 17and if the priest sees that the sore is white again, then the priest must say that the person is pure.
18If someone had a sore on his skin which has healed, 19and it starts swelling again and it becomes white where the sore was, or if the sore becomes pink, then the person must go to the priest and show it to him. 20If the priest sees that the sore is deeper than the skin and the hair has become white, then the priest must tell the person that he is impure, because the sore has become leprous. 21But if the priest sees that the hair on the sore is not white and that the sore is not deeper than the skin and that the colour of the sore has become better, then the priest must take that person away from all the other people for 7 days. 22If the sore becomes bigger, then the priest must tell the person that he is impure, because he has a skin disease. 23But if the sore has not become bigger, then it is only the mark of where the sore was before and the priest must tell the person that he is pure.
24If someone has burnt his skin and the sore becomes pink, 25then the priest must look at the sore. If the hair on the sore has become white and if the sore is deeper than the skin, then the place where he was burnt has become leprous. The priest must then tell the person that he is impure because he has leprosy. 26If the priest looks at the sore and the hair on the sore is not white and the sore is not deeper than the skin and it is not red anymore, then the priest must take that person away from all the other people for 7 days. 27On the 7th day the priest must look at the sore again. If the sore has become bigger, then the priest must tell the person that he is impure, because he has leprosy. 28If the sore has not become bigger and it is not red anymore, then it is only the mark from where the sore was before. The priest must tell the person that he is pure.
29If someone has a sore on his head or on the front part of his jaw, 30then the priest must look at the sore and if the sore is deeper than the skin and there are small yellow hairs on it, then the priest must tell the person that he is impure. 31But if the priest sees that the sore is not deeper than the skin and there are no black hairs in the sore, then the priest must take that person away from all the other people for 7 days. 32On the 7th day the priest must look at it again. If the sore has not become bigger and there are no yellow hairs in it and the sore is not deeper than the skin, 33then the person must cut off his hair and his beard, but he must not cut off the hair in the sore. The priest must then take that person away from all the other people again for 7 days. 34When the priest looks at the sore on the 7th day and the sore has not become bigger and it is not deeper than the skin, then the priest must tell the person that he is pure. The person must wash his clothes, and he is pure. 35But if the sore has become bigger after the person has come to the priest to ask him if he is pure, 36then the priest must look at him again. If the sore has become bigger, then the priest does not have to look if the hair is yellow, because then he knows that the person is impure. 37But if the priest sees that the sore has not become bigger and there are black hairs growing in it, then the sore is healing. The person is pure and the priest must tell him that he is pure.
38If there are white spots on a person's skin, 39then the priest must look at it. If he sees that the white spots do not look bad, then it is not a bad skin disease, and the person is pure.
40If a person's hair falls out and he is bald, then he is still pure, 41and if the hair on his forehead falls out and he is bald, then he is still pure. 42But if there is a sore which is pink on his bald head, then it is a disease. 43The priest must look at it and if he sees that the sore has started to swell and it is pink like when the skin is leprous, 44then the person has leprosy. There is a sore on his head and he is impure. The priest must tell the person that he is impure.
45Anyone who is a leper must tear his clothes and he must not comb his hair. He must cover his mouth and he must shout: “I am impure, I am impure.”
46He is impure for as long as he has the sore. He must live alone outside the camp.’
Spots on clothes, material or animal skins
47The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: ‘If there is mildew on clothes made from wool or linen, 48or on material or anything that you have made of animal skin or leather, 49then the priest must look at it. If the spots are green or red, then it is mildew. 50If the priest sees that it is mildew, he must take the clothes or material or thing made of leather and he must put it away for 7 days. 51If he looks at it on the 7th day and he sees that the spots have become more, then it is bad mildew and the clothes or material or thing made of leather is impure. 52The priest must take the clothes or material or thing made of animal skin and he must burn it because it has bad mildew.
53But if the priest sees that the spots have not become more, 54then the priest must tell the person to wash his clothes or material or thing made of animal skin and the priest must put it away for another 7 days. 55If it has been washed and the priest sees that the spots still look the same as before, even if they have not become more, then the clothes or material or the thing made of animal skin is impure and he must tell the person to burn it. It does not_matter if the spots are on the outside or inside of the clothes or material or skin.
56But if the person has washed the clothes and the priest sees that the colour of the spots has become better, then the priest must cut out those pieces where the spots are. 57If the mildew comes back on the clothes or material or thing made of animal skin, then the person must burn it. 58But if the person has washed it and there are no more spots on it, then the person must wash it again, and it will be pure.
59This is what you must do when there are spots on clothes made of wool or linen or material or anything that is made of animal skin. The priest must say if it is pure or impure.’
