Between the Logos of the Gospel and the Logos of Revelation lies the whole history of the church. In the words of John in chapter one, we find the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and in the remainder of the Gospel, we read about his preaching, his relationship with people, the hardships and humiliation he had to endure, and finally his death on the cross.

In the Gospel, God “speaks” to us through his Son incarnate as we read in John 1:14, “And the Word, was made flesh, and dwelt among us … full of grace and truth.” (KJV). When God speaks to us in this way we can better understand who and what he is, because when we recognise Jesus as a fellow human being, we understand more about the Being we call God. This “living among us” is however only one side of Jesus as the Word of God.

When we meet him as the Word in Revelation, it is still the same Jesus but God now “speaks” to us in a vastly different way and Jesus is revealed in a completely different light. There are no dusty Jerusalem streets any more, gone is the idea of a young man like so many other young men, and gone are the drinking, cursing, gambling soldiers at a hill called Golgotha.

What we have here is a white horse with a rider whose ”eyes were like a flame of fire and he wore many crowns on his head,’ and he is ”King of kings and Lord of lords”. Above all, the name of this rider is “the Word of God”. The Word that was there at the beginning of creation is the same Word that will there at the end of time and the beginning of the new creation.

God now “speaks” or deals with the world through Jesus, the King, who will rule over all in the new heaven and on the new earth. And we are royal children!

Prayer: In unison with the large crowd in Revelation, I want to call out, “Praise God! Salvation, glory and power belong to our God.” Amen
