Don’t be Crushed by Fear

Um(Imi)bhalo weBhayibheli

NgokukaJohane 14

27Ukuthula ngikushiya kinina, ukuthula kwami nginipha khona. Akunjengokupha kwezwe ukunipha kwami. Inhliziyo yenu mayingakhathazeki, ingesabi.

NgokukaJohane 14:27ZUL59NOVula kumfundi weBhayibheli

Have you ever found yourself in a life-threatening situation? Have you looked into the eyes of a person or persons confronting you and felt the force of their violent and murderous intent?

People respond differently in such situations. It is said that we will react in one of three ways. We will either freeze, fight (if we are able to) or flee.

There is no shame in being afraid; it is very much part of our human nature. However, its grip can leave us powerless and vulnerable.

Fear of bodily harm and death are not the only fears that can torment us. There are other fears we encounter in life. It could be fear of the future, fear of change, fear of loss, fear of unemployment, fear of illness, etc. – the list is endless.

God has one answer for all our fears. He gave the same answer to Isaac. “Do not be afraid, I am with you.” (Gen 26:24)

Jesus taught us that faith and trust in God conquers fear. He told us to learn from God’s provision for birds. Jesus gave us the reassurance that God places a much higher value on us and will meet our needs too. Being anxious about such matters will not, in any event, help us to live any longer (Matthew 6:25).

Jesus said that we should not stress about our lack of food and clothes, as pagans do. Instead, we should take one day at a time and totally focus on the kingdom of God, and what our heavenly Father wants us to do (Matthew 6:33).

The only way to overcome fear is by placing complete faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Saviour, our Friend and Companion. Place your hand firmly in his and he will enable you to walk life’s path, without fear.
