In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. Daniel 7:13 (NIV)
Daniel was a famous prophet who had visions and the ability to interpret dreams. Born in the 6th century BC, Daniel first trained in the royal court to be a scribe.
His interpretation of a dream that deeply troubled King Nebuchadnezzar thrust him into the limelight. The king was so impressed that he appointed Daniel to high office, and showered him with honours and riches (Daniel 2:48).
Daniel would serve several kings in his lifetime, but his first loyalty was always to Almighty God.
The prophetic vision, which is our verse for the day, foretold the Son of Man’s second coming.
Our Lord, too, spoke about that great and glorious day. During this Christmas, as we celebrate his first coming, we would do well to heed what our Lord said about his second coming. It would be a day that the world will not be able to ignore; there will be pitch darkness, no sun, no moon, the stars will fall and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” (Matthew 24:30-31)
Hallelujah! Jesus is coming again, just as the angels predicted 2 000 years ago. (Acts 1:11). What a glorious future awaits God’s elect.
