Have you ever woken up in the morning wondering how on earth you will get everything on your “To Do”-list done by the end of the day? Maybe that is how you feel today.
I woke up a while ago feeling like this. In conversation with God about it, I was reminded about an event in Joshua 10:13. In Joshua 10, a battle rages between Joshua and the Israelites on the one hand and the Amorites on the other. Joshua realised that they did not have enough daytime to achieve a victory in the battle. He asked God to stop the sun and moon in the sky in order to get extra daytime. God heard his prayer and made it happen. They were victorious in the battle that day.
Sometimes we too want to ask God to stop the sun and moon for us in order to get everything done. Although He can, it is not always the way He works. Most of the time, He fills us with wisdom, creativity and knowledge. Because He foresees the day and, therefore, knows about every potential challenge and obstacle that might cross our path, his wisdom, creativity and knowledge helps us to either avoid the obstacles or deal with it quicker and much more effectively. This saves us time and allows us to get much more done.
In Proverbs 3:4-6 we read, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” In James 1:5 we also read, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Instead of falling into the enemy’s trap by believing that we are “too busy” to spend time with God, let us make Him our first stop. It is much better if He directs our steps – rather than just be called in when a crisis arises. God made the sun and moon stand still for Joshua. He wants to amaze us with the ability to make good decisions, with wisdom, creativity and knowledge. Let’s consult with Him first. God bless you.
Assignment for the day: Ask God to make you aware of things that are stealing your time. Specifically ask Him to help you with time management and be sensitive to what you need to change when the Holy Spirit guides you.
