Where do you meet with God?
In a research study that I conducted, to identify the places in which people spend daily time with God, a woman told me that she meets God daily for a half an hour on her porch. Another woman said that she steps out onto her balcony for 15 minutes in the morning to say “Good morning” to God and to ask him for wisdom for her day’s tasks. One of the men that I interviewed told me that he listens to worship music on his way to work and because he arrives 20 minutes early for his shift, he closes his office door and spends time with God.
Although all three people emphasise that walking with God means you can talk to him throughout the day, they sometimes become so busy that the morning meeting with God is essential to make a success of their day. Although they all agree that, initially, it was difficult to get into that routine, they were all surprised to find that God’s presence was already there when they arrived on the porch, the balcony or the office – almost as if he was there to keep their appointment.
Listen again to the words in James 4:8: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
God created humans to stand in a relationship with him. Why don’t you choose to put off the radio for a few minutes on your way to work, to speak to God or go to work a few minutes earlier, so you can meet with him behind a closed door? He desires to speak to you today through his Holy Spirit. All we need to do is take the time to listen! God bless.
