Hearing God

1Ngomnyaka wokufa kwenkosi u-Uziya ngabona uJehova ehlezi esihlalweni sakhe sobukhosi esiphezulu nesiphakemeyo, umsila wengubo yakhe ugcwalisa ithempeli. 2Ngaphezu kwakhe kwakumi amaserafi;* yilelo nalelo lalinamaphiko ayisithupha; ngamabili lamboza ubuso, nangamabili lamboza izinyawo, nangamabili landiza. 3Elinye lamemeza kwelinye, lathi:

“Ungcwele, ungcwele, ungcwele uJehova Sebawoti,

wonke umhlaba ugcwele inkazimulo yakhe.”

4Izinsika zomnyango zathuthumela ngezwi lomemezayo, indlu yagcwala umusi. 5Ngase ngithi: “Maye kimi! Ngokuba ngiphelile, lokhu ngingumuntu ozindebe zakhe zingcolile, futhi ngihlezi phakathi kwabantu abazindebe zabo zingcolile, ngokuba amehlo ami abonile iNkosi uJehova Sebawoti.”

6Kepha landizela kimi elinye lamaserafi* liphethe ilahle elivuthayo esandleni salo, elalilithathe ngodlawu e-altare, 7lathinta umlomo wami, lathi: “Bheka, lokhu kuthintile izindebe zakho; ububi bakho sebususiwe, nezono zakho zihlanguliwe.”

8Futhi ngezwa izwi leNkosi lithi: “Ngiyakuthuma bani, ngubani oyakusiyela na?”

Ngase ngithi: “Bheka, nangu mina; ngithume mina.”

If we want to hear God’s voice speaking to us, we need to follow the example set by men and women of God. If we emulate Isaiah in our attitude and spiritual habits, we will start ‘hearing’ God speaking directly to us.

Author Oswald Chambers states, ‘God did not direct His call to Isaiah – Isaiah overheard God saying, ‘…who will go for Us?’ The call of God is not just for a select few but for everyone. Whether I hear God’s call or not depends on the condition of my ears, and exactly what I hear depends upon my spiritual attitude.’
