Itekisi yeBhayibhile

1 YEZIGANEKO 29

11Ewe, Ndikhoyo, bobakho bonke ubukhulu ndawonye namandla;

naso isidima sikwasesakho, ubungangamsha nobunewu-newu.

Kaloku zezakho zonke ezisezulwini,

kanti nezisemhlabeni ikwazezakho.

Ewe, Ndikhoyo, lolwakho ulawulo;

uyingqanga-ngqanga evelele konke jikelele.

God is the Creator of the universe. He holds the sun, moon and stars in his hand. He determines our future. Yet, He is also interested in the detail of our lives. This is what I experienced this week.

For weeks on end I have been looking for a set of earphones of mine as well as a specific pair of sunglasses. In my attempt to locate it, I have searched through the house and all of my handbags and I have even offered a reward to any family member who locates either of the two items. All in vain.

On Tuesday morning I decided to move our bed away from the wall one last time to see if I cannot find either of the two items behind the bed. There was nothing. As I was busy moving the bed back, I prayed: “Father God, I know that You know where the sunglasses and headphones are. Please help me through your Holy Spirit to find it. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.” In my heart I had no doubt that God knew where both the articles were.

About an hour later, the children and I had to drive to the store. One of my children was convinced that her lost shoe was underneath the car’s seat. I moved the seat forward and gasped for breath. In front of me, I not only found the lost shoe, but the missing pair of sunglasses! Out of sheer excitement, I said: “Look here! Just an hour ago I asked God to help me find the sunglasses and here it is. Now I only need my earphones.”

Probably about two to three hours later, I had to get something out of my handbag. It stood where my children played. I barely put my hand in the handbag when my eye caught the white container with the headphones – in the same place where I had searched numerous times before without success. I could hardly believe my eyes. Even my children were excited by this practical demonstration that faith and prayer do work.

I love how God is described in 1 Chronicles 29:11: “Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.”And then we read in 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.”

At times we feel that our situation or need might be too “ridiculous or unimportant” to speak to God about it. The truth however is that God delights in the detail of our lives. He responds to a heart filled with faith. If something is important to us, it is important to Him because we are important to Him.

God is great. He possesses all the power, fame, splendor and majesty of the world. He rules over everything. Yet He took the time to help me look for my pair of sunglasses and earphones! Let us put our faith and trust in Him. He still is involved in the detail of our lives. God bless.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that You are interested in my life and that no challenge or prayer is ever too “ridiculous or unimportant” to You. Help me today with (name your need). I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen
