Some time ago, the 19-year-old Stephen Rogata, got arrested in New York, United States after ascending the Trump Towers with suction cups and ropes. He desperately wanted to get to Donald Trump. Rogata progressed to the 21st floor, before police arrested him. He was criminally charged for this action.

I cannot help but wonder what was so important to this young man, that he risked his life to get to Donald Trump? What did he think only Trump could help him with?

When challenges in our lives threaten to overwhelm us, we easily fall into the same trap as this young man. Because it fills us with fear and makes us feel powerless, we become desperate. In our desperation, we easily lose perspective. It is then that we start fighting in our own strength – in our marriage, as a parent, in a hostile work environment or even when we try to realise our dreams on our own. Without sometimes even realising it, we become like this young man, placing our faith and trust in people, rather than the One who created all people.

God wants us to talk to Him about the things that threaten to overwhelm us. He can calm the storm within us and fill us with peace. In James 4:8 we read: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” In 1 John 5:14 we read: “And now we can go to God with confidence, because he hears us if we have anything according to his will to ask.” And in Philippians 4:6-7 we read: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Let’s put down the suction cups and ropes and go in faith to Him when we feel overwhelmed. Let’s allow Him to fill us with peace while demonstrating His greatness to us. He can calm the storms around us and fill us with a renewed perspective. God bless you.

Assignment for the day: Make a list of everything in your life that stresses you out. Give everything over to God and allow Him to sort it out on your behalf.
