God is the one who, through the ages, reveals himself to man. One of the consequences of the fall is we, the created, have lost our natural desire to seek out our creator. Another is that we are not always attuned to God’s voice and we cannot recognise it clearly.

There are many examples:

From the burning bush, God calls to Moses and introduces himself, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” (Exodus 3:6)

In 1 Kings 19:12-13, we read, “And after the fire came a gentle whisper … Then a voice said to him, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’”

On his way to persecute Christians in Damascus, God shone a bright light on Saul and spoke to him, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” (Acts 9:5)

God is the one who continues to reveal himself every day to his children. Sometimes, he does it dramatically and with a significant impact on your life. At other times, he reveals himself through small and day-to-day things.

Do we hear him? Do we recognise his voice?
