Beginning with the truth that the Lord is king over all the earth, reading of God's promise of a coming king, Christ's declaration and explanation of the Kingdom, and culminating with a glimpse towards the day when the kingdom of the world becomes the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, when he will reign for ever and ever.

Owona myalelo mkhulu

28Kwafika omnye wabachazi-mthetho, wabeva bebambene ngemibuzo, waqonda ukuba uYesu ubaphendule kakuhle. Wambuza ke esithi: “Owona myalelo mkhulu kunayo yonke nguwuphi?”

29UYesu wamphendula esithi: “Owona myalelo mkhulu ngulo uthi: ‘Yiva, Sirayeli, iNkosi uThixo wethu yiNkosi ényé. 30Uze uyithande ke iNkosi uThixo wakho ngentliziyo yakho iphela, nangomphefumlo wakho uphela, nangengqondo yakho iphela, nangamandla akho ephela.’ 31Owesibini ke ngulo: ‘Uze umthande ummelwane wakho kanye ngale ndlela uzithanda ngayo nawe.’ Akukho myalelo wumbi ubalulekileyo kunalé mibini.”

32Umchazi-mthetho ke wathi kuye: “Ngxatsho ke, Mfundisi, unyanisile ukuthi mnye uThixo, kungekho wumbi ngaphandle kwakhe; 33nokuthi umthande yena ngentliziyo iphela, nangengqiqo iphela, nangamandla ephela, nokuthi umthande ummelwane wakho kanye ngale ndlela uzithanda ngayo, kungaphezulu lee kunayo yonke imibingelelo namadini atshiswayo.”

34UYesu embonile ukuba uphendule ngengqiqo, wathi kuye: “Akukude wena ekulawulweni nguThixo.” Emva koko akwaba sabakho mntu unobuganga bakumbuza nto.
