When will You feel sorry for us again?
This is a prayer of Moses, the man of God.
1Lord, You have been our home,
and we have lived safely with You from long ago,
from the beginning.
2You were always God,
even before the mountains were born
and before You made the earth,
and You will be God forever.
3You cause people to die
and become dust again.
You say to us:
‘Go back and become dust again.’
4Because for You, 1 000 years
go past as quickly as yesterday which is gone,
or as quickly as the few hours
that a guard must stand
on the wall at night.
5You cause people to die,
and their lives are as short as a dream
that is gone in the morning.
It is like a plant that starts to grow,
6and in the morning it grows quickly,
but by night it dies and disappears.
7When You become angry,
our fear destroys us.
8You know what we have done wrong.
You see all the sins that we try to hide.
9Our lives come to an end because
You are angry with us for as long as we live.
Our lives will not last very long.
10We live for 70 years,
or if we are strong, we live for 80 years,
and we suffer all the time.
The years of our lives pass quickly,
and then we are gone.
11No one has ever really known
how angry You can become when people sin.
People should fear You when You are angry.
12Please teach us how to live every day
so that we will become wise.
13Lord, please come back to us,
and feel sorry for us again,
for the people who serve You.
14Please fill us with your love
every day so that we will rejoice
and be happy for as long as we live.
15You have made us suffer
for a long time.
Please make us happy
for as long as we have suffered.
16We are your servants.
Please show us the wonderful things
that You can do,
and show your glory and power to our children.
17Lord, our God, please be good to us.
Bless us and make us succeed
in everything that we do.
Let your blessings be with us.
