Teach the king how to rule
This is a Psalm of Solomon.
1O God, please teach the king
to be fair and righteous, like You are.
2We pray that he will rule
fairly over your people and that
he will judge poor people
in the way that You want him to do.
3Let there be peace and a lot of
food in the land,
and on all the mountains and hills.
4Let the king do what is right
to poor people and save
their children and punish those
who oppress other people.
5O God, let the king fear
and serve You for as long
as the sun and the moon shine,
in this generation and
in all the generations to come.
6Let the king be to his people
like rain on the land
where there is little grass,
and like a lot of rain
that waters the dry earth.
7Please let all go well with
the people who live in the right way and
let there be peace for all
for as long as the king lives,
as long as the moon is there.
8Let the king rule
from the big sea to the other sea
on the other side of the Euphrates River
and to the furthest places on earth.
9Let the people who live in the desert
come and bow before the king.
His enemies must come and lie down
on the dust in front of him.
10Let the kings of Tarshish
and the islands come
and bring him gifts.
Let the kings of the lands of
Sheba and Seba pay taxes to him.
11Let all the kings bow down
before him and let all the nations serve him.
12Because the king will save
the poor people who ask him for help,
and the people who can not
help themselves and
have no one to help them.
13He will feel sorry for the poor people
and those who have nothing,
and he will save the lives of the weak people.
14He will save them from cruel people
who oppress them and make them suffer.
The lives of the poor people are
very important and precious to the king.
15Let the king live for a long time
and let people bring him
gold from Sheba.
Let the people always pray
that God will bless the king
and be with him every day.
16Please let there always be
a lot of wheat in the wheat_fields.
It must cover all the hills,
and it must grow like the plants
on the Lebanon Mountains.
Let there be a lot of people in the cities,
as many as the grass in the fields.
17Let the people always
remember the king,
and let him be famous
for as long as the sun shines.
Lord, bless all the nations
because of the king,
and let them all pray that
he will be happy.
18Praise the Lord,
the God of Israel.
Only He does wonderful
and amazing things.
19Praise the name of the Lord,
the great King, forever.
The whole world must know that
He is King and all the people
must see how wonderful He is.
Amen, yes, amen.
