You teach me how to live
This is a Psalm of David.
1My God, please protect me.
I trust in You and ask You to keep me safe.
2I say to the Lord: ‘You are my God,
and I belong to You.
All the good things I have, come from You.’
3There are idols in this land,
and people who worship them
think their gods are holy and strong.
4But people who believe in those idols
will suffer more and more.
I will not sacrifice drink-offerings
of blood to them,
and I will never say their names.
5No, all I want is the Lord.
Only You can give me life
and decide what will happen to me.
6You have given me wonderful gifts
in a beautiful land,
and I love the home that You have given me.
7Praise the Lord. He tells me what to do,
and even at night I think of what He teaches me.
8I know that the Lord is always near me,
and I will not fall because He is with me.
9That is why I am happy and rejoice.
I am always safe with You,
10because You will never leave me
in the underworld.
I believe in You and I know that
You will not forget me in the grave.
11You teach me how to live a holy life.
People who are near You
are thankful, and they rejoice.
You teach me that if I am with You,
I will be happy forever.
