Lord, please be my Judge
This is a lamentation of David. He wrote this song to the Lord about something that Cush, from the Benjamin tribe, said to him.
1Lord my God, I trust in You
to protect me. Please save me
from the people who are chasing me.
2If You don't help me,
they will attack me like a lion
that kills an animal
when there is no one who can save it.
3Lord my God, my enemies say that
I have done things that are wrong.
4They say that I have betrayed my friends
and have taken things from my enemies
when they have done nothing wrong to me.
5If it is true that I have done that,
then You can let my enemies catch me
and trample me into the ground
and let my dead body lie in the dust. Selah
6Lord, I ask You to become angry
and attack my enemies
who want to attack me.
Stand up against them and help me,
and tell them to be fair.
7Make all the nations come together
around You where You sit
on your high throne.
8Lord, You will judge everyone,
so I am asking You to be my Judge.
You know that I have done
what is right and I am innocent.
9You, who always do what is right,
O God, You know what people think
and what is in their hearts.
Please stop the people who are doing wrong
and be good to those who do right.
10You are my Shield, O God,
and You protect people who are honest.
11You are a fair and righteous Judge,
O God, and You always punish people
who are guilty.
12If the enemies do not
change their lives and turn to God,
He will sharpen his sword
and prepare to shoot them
with his bow_and_arrow.
13He prepares his weapons
that will kill them.
He will shoot them
with arrows that are burning.
14Everyone can see that
those bad people continue
doing things that are wrong,
and they want to do sinful things and tell lies.
15They make a hole in the ground
to trap other people,
but they will fall into it themselves.
16They want me to suffer,
but they themselves will suffer and get hurt.
17I will praise the Lord
who always does what is right.
I will sing and glorify the name
of the Lord, the Most High God.
