Sing about the power of God
Tell the leader of the choir that this song is a Psalm of David.
1When God gets up,
He chases away all his enemies
and everyone who hates Him
must run away and flee.
2You chase them away like
the wind that blows smoke away.
The people who do wrong
will disappear in front of God
like wax which melts near a fire.
3But the people who live in the right way
will be happy. They will sing to God and rejoice.
4Sing to God, sing and praise his name.
Make a way for Him who rides through the desert.
His name is the Lord and
you must rejoice before Him.
5God is in his holy place.
He is a Father for the orphans
and a Protector for the widows.
6God takes the people who are lonely,
and He gives them a house to live in.
He brings the prisoners
out of jail and makes them happy.
But people who turn_against God
and rebel_against Him will suffer.
They will have to live in a dry desert.
7O God, when You started
walking in front of your people,
when You led them through the desert, Selah
8the earth trembled in front of You
and rain fell from the sky.
You are the God of Mount Sinai,
the God of Israel.
9O God, You made a lot of rain
fall all over the world,
and You gave new life to your dry land again.
10The people who belong to You
went to live there.
You were good to them, O God.
You took care of the people
who were suffering.
11When the Lord told
the women to do it,
they brought the good news and said:
12‘Kings and their armies
have run away and fled.’
The women divided the plunder
that the men had taken and brought it home.
13Even those who stayed at home
in the fields with the sheep
would get some of the treasures
that the men had taken in the war,
like images of doves that were
covered with silver and
their wings covered with gold.
14When the Almighty God
chased the kings away,
they were like snow that falls
on Mount Zalmon.
15Mount Bashan, you are big,
and you have a lot of peaks.
16All you other mountains with high peaks,
why are you jealous of
the mountain that God chose
to be his home?
Why are you jealous of
the mountain where God will always stay?
17God has a lot of war-chariots,
10s of thousands and thousands of thousands,
more than anyone can count.
The Lord comes with them.
He comes from Mount Sinai
to his holy temple.
18Lord, when You went up
the high mountain,
You took prisoners with You.
The people gave You gifts
and You accepted them,
even from people who had
rebelled_against You,
and You went to stay on the mountain.
19We want to praise the Lord.
He helps us every day, and He saves us. Selah
20Our God is a God who helps
and saves his people
so that they do not die.
21But God defeats his enemies.
He will cut their heads into pieces,
the heads of the people
who continue to sin.
22God said: ‘I will bring back
your enemies from Bashan.
I will bring them out of
the deep places in the sea.
23Then you can put your feet
into their blood
and your dogs can drink
the blood of your enemies.’
24O God our King,
everyone can see how You
and everyone with You go to the temple.
25The people who sing
are walking in front,
the people who play music
are walking at the back,
and the girls who shake the tambourines
are walking in the middle.
26Praise God where all of you
are together in the great congregation.
The descendants of Israel
must praise the Lord.
27The leaders of Benjamin,
the smallest tribe, are also there.
They walk in front of the other leaders.
Then the leaders of the Judah tribe come,
and there are a lot of them.
Then come the leaders of the Zebulun tribe
and the leaders of the Naphtali tribe.
28O God, show your power
and your strength that
You have used before to help us.
29Kings will bring gifts to You,
to your temple in Jerusalem.
30God, please punish
the people of Egypt.
They are like hippopotamuses
in the reeds near the river.
They are stronger than the other nations,
like bulls that are stronger than calves.
Please destroy the people
who come to take treasures,
and defeat the nations
who always want to go to war.
31The leaders of Egypt
will come to the Lord
to bring Him gifts.
People from Cush will
put their hands up to worship God.
32People from all the lands on earth
must sing to God,
and praise the Lord. Selah
33Sing to the Lord
who rides through the sky,
the heaven that has been there
from the beginning.
Listen, He speaks loudly,
and it sounds like thunder.
34You must sing about the power of God,
He who is King_of_Israel.
He shows his power everywhere,
and also in the sky.
35O God, You are amazing
when You come out of your temple.
The God of Israel gives power
and strength to his people,
and He makes them strong.
O God, we praise You.
