Foolish people are like animals
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a Psalm of the Korah group.
1All the nations must listen to me.
All the people in the world
must listen to what I say,
2everyone, rich and poor people.
3I will speak words of wisdom,
and the things that I say will help you understand.
4I will listen to a proverb
and tell you what it means
while I play the lyre.
5I will not become afraid
when things go wrong
or when sinful people stand around me.
6They boast because they are rich,
and they think their money will help them.
7No one can buy back the life
of another person, and no one
can pay God to save his own life.
8The price of a life is too much.
No one will ever have enough
money to pay to save his life
9so that he will live forever
and not die and go to the grave.
10Anyone can see
that wise people die.
Foolish and stupid people also die
and they leave their money
and precious things to other people.
11They will always stay in their graves,
even if they were famous
and cities have their names,
and all people who live
after them will see this.
12Even rich people do not live forever.
They die like animals.
13What happens to people
who trust in themselves,
and to their followers
who believe in them? Selah
14They all die like sheep.
Death takes care of them
like a shepherd and leads them
to their graves.
The next morning God's people
walk over them where their bodies
lie in their new home, the grave,
far away from their beautiful houses.
They are dead, and they can not go anywhere.
15But God will save my life
from the grave. Yes,
He will take me to Him. Selah
16Don't worry when someone
becomes rich and has
a lot of things in his house,
17because when he dies,
he will not be able
to take anything with him.
His money can not go with him
to the underworld.
18Yes, people said they were blessed
when they were alive and
they praised these people
when they succeeded.
19But they will all die and
go to where their forefathers are.
They will never come back
or see the light again.
20Rich people, who are not wise,
are like animals that die.
