Please do not throw us away forever
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a song of the Korah group.
1O God, our forefathers
have told us about the wonderful things
that You did long ago
when they lived.
2You chased away other nations
from their land with your power
and You gave their land to your people, the Israelites.
You destroyed those nations
but You made your people strong.
3Your people took the land,
but it was not because they
were good at making war.
They did not save themselves,
and they were not strong.
No, it was You who were strong.
You saved them because You loved them.
4O God, You are my King
and You commanded
the men of Jacob to win.
5If You are with us,
we will defeat our enemies,
and if You send us, we will win
and trample anyone
who fights against us.
6Yes, I know that it is not
my bow_and_arrow or my sword
that can save me.
7It was You who
saved us from our enemies.
You defeated the people
who hated us and made them ashamed.
8We have praised the name
of God every day and we
will thank Him forever. Selah
9But then You pushed us away
and humiliated us.
You did not go with us
when we went to war.
10You made us turn_around
and flee from our enemies,
and those who hate us
came and took everything that we had.
11You made us suffer like sheep
that are going to be killed.
You made us flee to other lands.
12You sold your people
for a very small price.
They were not valuable to You.
13You made our neighbours humiliate us,
and the people around us laugh at us.
14You let our enemies use our name
to mock other people.
Yes, they shake their heads
when they talk about us.
15I do not know where to hide.
I am ashamed and don't want
to show my face to anyone.
16People say bad things
about me and mock me.
My enemies come to punish me
and they make me suffer.
17All these things happened to us,
but we did not forget You
and we were not false.
We did not stop listening to your covenant.
18We have not turned away from You
and we have not stopped following You.
We have not been disobedient.
19But You have broken up
our home and You have made it
a place where foxes live.
You covered us with darkness.
20We did not forget the name
of our God and
we did not worship other gods.
21If we had done that,
then God would have known,
because He knows everything,
even the secrets of our hearts.
22But because we belong to You,
people want to kill us all the time.
They think that we are like sheep
that they can kill.
23Lord, please do something.
Why are You sleeping?
Please get up, and don't push us away forever.
24Why do You look away?
Have You forgotten
our pain and our trouble?
25Yes, we are lying on the ground,
and we can not get up from the dust.
26Lord, please get up
and come and help us.
Save us because You love us
and made a covenant with us.
