Please don't stop feeling sorry for me
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a Psalm of David.
1I waited for the Lord to help me,
and then He bowed down and heard me crying.
He listened to me.
2He lifted me up out of the deep hole
that was full of mud.
He put my feet on a rock
and made me stand strong.
3He gave me a new song to sing,
a song of praise to our God.
A lot of people will see this,
and they will worship the Lord
and trust in Him.
4All will go well with someone
who trusts in the Lord,
and does not ask for help
from idols, dead things that are not gods.
5O Lord my God,
You have done many miracles
and You have decided on many
things that are very good for us.
There is no one like You.
I want to tell about everything that You have done,
but there are too many things,
and no one can count them all.
6You do not want us
to give You offerings and gifts,
but You have helped me to understand
what You say and to listen to You.
That is better than bringing
burnt-offerings and sin-offerings to You.
7Then I said: ‘Lord, here I am.
I am here to do what is written
about me in the book of laws.
8My God, I want to do what You want.
I always think about what is written
in your laws.’
9You have saved me and
I will tell the good news
to everyone when they
come together.
Lord, You know that I will not keep quiet.
10And I have not kept quiet.
I have spoken about You who have saved me.
I have spoken to all the people in the great
congregation about your love
and your faithfulness.
11Lord, please do not stop
feeling sorry for me.
Give me your mercy.
Your love and faithfulness
will always protect me
and I will be safe.
12Many bad things have happened to me.
There are too many to count.
My sins are more
than the hairs on my head,
and I can not see a way out.
I feel weak and discouraged.
13Lord, please save me.
Come quickly and help me.
14I pray that you will punish
the people who want to take away my life,
and make them ashamed.
Make them turn_around and go away,
these people who want to hurt me.
15Humiliate those who mock me,
and make them ashamed.
Make the people who laugh at me
become afraid.
16Let everyone who
follows and serves You
rejoice and be happy.
They love You because
You have saved them.
Let them always say:
‘The Lord is good and great.’
17I am poor and
I can not help myself,
but the Lord will never forget me.
Lord, You are my Helper and my Saviour.
Please do not wait too long
before You help me.
