Proverbs 13

₁Wise children listen

when their fathers teach them,

but someone who laughs at wisdom

does not listen when his father rebukes him.

₂People will be rewarded

for the good things they say,

but unfaithful people always want to fight.

₃Someone who is careful

of what he says protects his life,

but someone who talks too much

destroys himself.

₄Lazy people become hungry

but they don't get anything to eat,

but people who work hard

get enough food to eat.

₅People who live in the right way hate lies,

but sinful people do shameful things.

₆The good things

that righteous people do

keep them safe,

but the bad things that sinners do

destroy their lives.

₇Some people pretend to be rich,

but they are not,

and some people pretend to be poor,

but they have a lot of things.

₈A rich person can pay to save himself

when he is in trouble,

but poor people can not help themselves.

₉The life of someone who lives in the right way

is like a light that shines brightly,

but the life of a sinner is like

a lamp that goes out and dies.

₁₀Proud people always want to argue,

but people who are wise always listen

when other people tell them what to do.

₁₁A person who becomes rich suddenly

will soon be poor again,

but someone who works for his money carefully

will get more and more.

₁₂If someone doesn't get what he hopes for,

he will become sad,

but if he gets what he wants,

it is like eating fruit from the tree_of_life.

₁₃If someone does not want to do

what a wise man teaches him,

he will become poor and be destroyed,

but if he does what wise people tell him,

he will be rewarded.

₁₄The things that a wise person

teaches you give life, and will help you

escape from dangers and save you.

₁₅People will love you if you

understand the important things in life.

People who are unfaithful make plans,

but they will not succeed.

₁₆Wise people know how to do things,

but fools keep on doing things

that show how stupid they are.

₁₇A messenger who gives

the wrong message

will bring a lot of trouble,

but someone who brings his message correctly

brings peace to people.

₁₈Someone who does not want to do

what a wise man teaches him

will become poor and no one

will respect him,

but they respect and honour

someone who remembers

what wise people taught him.

₁₉It is good to get something that you want,

but only fools hate to turn away from sin

and stop doing bad things.

₂₀If you live with wise people,

you will get wisdom,

but if your friends are foolish people,

you will become bad too.

₂₁Sinners will always have trouble,

but good people will be rewarded.

₂₂When a good man dies,

his grandchildren inherit what he had,

but the money that a sinner has saved

goes to someone else,

to someone who lives in the right way.

₂₃There is a lot of wheat

growing in the field of poor people,

but often other people cheat them

and take it for themselves.

₂₄If you don't punish your children,

you don't love them,

but if you love them, you will tell them

when they have done wrong.

₂₅People who live in the right way

will have enough food to eat,

but people who do wrong

will always be hungry.
