The people of Moab will ask the Lord to help them
1The Lord was angry with the people of Moab. He said:
‘The enemies have destroyed the cities
of Ar and Kir in Moab in one night
and they have ruined it.
2The people of the city of Dibon
go to the temples of their gods.
They go to the places_of_sacrifice to cry.
The people of Moab cry over the cities
of Nebo and Medeba.
They have shaved their hair and beards.
3They put on sack-cloth in the streets,
and they cry on the roofs of their homes
and in the market places.
They are very sad, and they want to die.
4The people of the towns
of Heshbon and Elealeh shout
and ask someone to help them.
The people of the city of Jahaz can hear them.
That is why the soldiers of Moab tremble,
and they are discouraged and afraid.
5I feel very sorry for the people of Moab
because they flee as far as the cities
of Zoar and Eglath-Shelishiyah.
They cry and go to the city of Luhith,
and they shout on the way to the city of Horonaim
because their land has been destroyed.
6There is no more water in the city of Nimrim.
The grass has become dry,
and there are no more plants. Nothing is green.
7That is why the Moabites
take everything they have
and carry it over the Poplar River.
8All the people in Moab shout
and ask someone to help them,
and so do the people in the cities of Eglaim and Beer-Elim.
9The water of Dimon River is full of blood,
but I, the Lord, will make the people
of Dimon suffer even more.
I will send lions to attack the people of Moab,
who are still_alive
and left over in the land.’
